The Hawai‘i Food and Wine Festival has been the model and inspiration for the Jeju Food and Wine Festival, which will be held May 5-14 at Jeju Island, South Korea. Jeju and Hawaii have been sister cities since 1986 and Jeju is commemorating the 30th anniversary with the inaugural fair.
Local chefs Alan Wong and Roy Yamaguchi, who both founded the Hawai‘i Food and Wine Festival, are invited to Jeju along with former Halekulani executive chef Vikram Garg. Some other notable international chefs being invited are Masaharu Morimoto, Ming Tsai, Todd English, Josiah Citrin and 10 South Korean chefs.
Jeju Island is well noted for its diverse climate and abundance of seafood. A group of about 20 delegates, ranging from local politicians to businessmen, plan on making a stop at the Jeju Food and Wine Festival during their trade mission to South Korea.
